The DSMS Sports Medicine team provides state-of-the-art care for a full range of the sports and musculoskeletal injuries.

We specialize in results-oriented treatment to improve athletic performance and to “get you back in the game,” whether you are a competitive or recreational athlete. Our conservative yet progressive philosophy has proven to be very successful in the treatment and rehabilitation of the most basic to most complex injuries.

Through years of practicing in this area and with a multitude of sports teams, Dr Zinis has developed an extensive referral network of elite physical therapists and surgeons, if necessary.

Yani C. Zinis, D.O.


Yani C Zinis, D.O. is Board Certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and has been a part of the Rose Medical Community for over 20 years. Dr Zinis first joined Orthopedic Associates in 1996 and then in May of 2018, he opened a new practice on the campus of Rose. He is committed to the highest level of specialty care in the non-operative treatment and management of musculoskeletal injuries with a focus on sports medicine.

A Colorado native, Dr Zinis attended Mullen High School and then received his BA from Occidental College. He received his medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his residency at the University of Colorado. Dr Zinis is very involved with the sports community both locally and internationally.

He is credentialed as a USOC (United States Olympic Committee) physician and has served as the head team physician at the Paralympics for USA Wheelchair Basketball and Rugby. He worked for USA Hockey as the head team physician at the Olympics and multiple World Championships, as well as serving as an assistant team physician for the Colorado Avalanche and Denver Nuggets. Dr Zinis has been recognized as a 5280 Top Doctor since 1999.

He continues to focus on the functional restoration of orthopedic injuries with a conservative yet progressive philosophy.

Raili Donnelly, PA-C
Physician Assistant

Raili received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from Dartmouth College and then graduated from the Physician Assistant Program with a Master’s Degree in Science at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. Her first job as a Certified Physician Assistant began twelve years ago with Dr. Zinis, where they worked together for seven years at his previous practice. She has spent the last five years at Rose Medical Center hospital working in orthopedic surgery. As of fall 2019, Raili joined the team at Denver Sports Medicine and Spine to start seeing patients again with Dr. Zinis. We are thrilled to have her on board!

Kellie Lowry, PA-C
Physician Assistant

Kellie received her Bachelor of Science degree in Health Sciences in May of 2007 from Gannon University and then completed Gannon’s Master’s Degree Program for Physician Assistants. She has worked in many areas of health care as a Certified Physician Assistant, including family practice, general urology, obstetrics, gynecology, and sports medicine. Kellie recently joined our team in January of 2020 and we are excited to have her working alongside Raili and Dr. Zinis!

Megan Halles
Medical Assistant

Megan graduated from the University of Wyoming with a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Human Physiology. She worked as a Medical Assistant in Emergency Medicine as well as Neurology for four years before joining DSMS to work as Dr. Zinis’ MA in March of 2019. Megan’s goal is to become a Physician Assistant and she is currently working on her applications to PA programs in the area.

Daphne McGuire
Patient Care Coordinator

Daphne has worked with Dr. Zinis for a total of thirteen years, including eleven years at his previous practice as part of the administrative staff, before rejoining him for opening day at Denver Sports Medicine and Spine in May, 2018. She currently serves as the Patient Care Coordinator, where she always has a smile on her face and frequently surprises long standing patients with her recollections of their personal stories that they have shared with her over the years.

Isida Phelps
Practice Administrator

Isida has been in the health care field since graduating from UC San Diego with a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology in 2007. Since then, she has served in multiple capacities including Clinical Administrator, Practice Administrator, and Medical Assistance in two large Pain Management clinics before joining Denver Sports Medicine and Spine as our Practice Administrator in June of 2018. While working full time at DSMS, she has been busy completing her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and graduated from nursing school in September of 2019.
